CROSSROADS COMMUNITY FOOD NETWORK - TAKOMA PARK, MD

COMMUNITY KITCHEN FINANCIAL STRATEGY, PROGRAMMING SUPPORT, AND FACILITY BUILD-OUT

FINANCIAL MODELING, PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT | 2016-2019

Crossroads Community Food Network, a storied community-based organization, launched the Takoma Park Silver Spring Community Kitchen to help meet the needs of small-scale food entrepreneurs, especially those from low-income communities. Food Works Group (FWG) advised on the financial strategy, program development, membership structure, and build out of this shared-use community kitchen to serve the Silver Spring and Takoma Park communities. The facility is used for small-batch food production, classes, community events, and more. FWG supported the organization on an ongoing basis with their financial modeling and program development. The facility has proven to be an economic development asset and is yielding impact for entrepreneurs and their communities. To date, over 200 entrepreneurs have participated in its Microenterprise Development Program, and the kitchen has supported the production of more than 100 new food items.
