claire (Cummings) Bogle

Claire (Cummings) Bogle is a leading expert in waste sustainability and has over a decade of experience working to prevent and reduce food and packaging waste on farms, during distribution, and in kitchens and cafés. She is dedicated to building a more sustainable and just food system and has a proven track record of successfully working across the supply chain to create meaningful change.

Prior to joining Food Works Group, Claire was the Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives for Bon Appétit Management Company, the food service pioneer that operates more than 1,000-plus cafés in 33 states for universities, corporations, and museums. Claire helped craft the company’s carbon reduction plan and oversaw the creation of the Food Standards Dashboard, an innovative tool for tracking progress on company-wide sustainability and wellness commitments. She doubled Bon Appétit’s food-recovery programs and managed the development of a patent-pending kitchen-waste-tracking app. She worked with produce distributors and farmers of all sizes around the country to solve the logistical challenges of rescuing underutilized produce, eventually saving over 8 million pounds of food from going to waste through the launch of Imperfectly Delicious Produce.

Before Bon Appétit, Claire led the design and launch of the Montgomery County Food Council where she performed all fundraising and communication efforts. The diverse advisory board she assembled continues to support the council as the primary connection point for food systems issues in the county to this day. Through Growing Gardens, Claire is additionally certified in resource, curriculum, and garden development to assist schools and organizations in establishing edible garden education programs.

Claire holds a bachelor’s in international relations and a minor in environmental studies from Lewis & Clark College. She is currently vice president of the board of directors for Sustainable Connections, and was previously on the board of directors for Food Recovery Network. She was named one of Food Tank’s 30 Women Under 30 Changing Food, is a recipient of Saveur’s “Activist” Good Taste Award, and her work has been featured in Bloomberg News, Sunset Magazine, and the New York Times. Claire lives in Bellingham, WA.
