EXPANDING OPERATIONS AT A MISSION-ORIENTED NONPROFIT CPG CO-MANUFACTURER

Food Works Group (FWG) was contracted by CommonWealth Kitchen (CWK) to physically and financially model an expansion of their co-manufacturing operations with the goal of increasing production capacity. The discovery and research process included a review of current financials and operations, interviews with potential pipeline-generating partners, a facility site visit, and multiple full-team discussions on overall project direction. FWG created a financial tool that models utilization and revenue generation of distinct bakery and flowables lines, which would both increase production opportunities for their mission-aligned member businesses and enable growth of other client relationships, including institutional wholesale of CWK-branded products. Profit generated by the latter would serve to subsidize the co-located shared-use kitchen operation where many members begin scaling their businesses, prior to co-manufacturing.
