DEVELOPING A THRIVING GRAINS ECOSYSTEM

LANDSCAPE ANALYSIS | 2020-2021

Regional grains-growing holds promise for supporting the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices, creating new financial opportunities for local farms and increasing the availability of high-quality, staple goods for the region. Food Works Group (FWG), in partnership with FRESHFARM, evaluated the landscape to gauge traction for launching an initiative dedicated to fostering a productive regional grains economy for the Mid-Atlantic region. FWG assessed the need for infrastructure to support an emerging network of producers and consumers, and also explored capacity-building opportunities to create food jobs and seed awareness of soil-building farming practices. FWG Founding Partner, Wendy Stuart, joined the Common Grain Alliance Board of Directors following this work.
