FOOD SECURITY ASSESSMENT OF HENNEPIN COUNTY (TWIN CITIES REGION)

LANDSCAPE ANALYSIS | 2024

The Hennepin County Public Health Department engaged Food Works Group (FWG) to assess the county’s food security gaps, barriers, and opportunities. FWG is gathering information via in-depth stakeholder interviews with county staff, healthcare professionals, social services agencies, food producers, retail food establishments, community support organizations, and cultural groups. Interview data is providing important local context and nuance, informing FWG’s Hennepin County Food Security Assessment. Additionally, FWG is collecting county-level data pertinent to food security, social determinants of health, and health outcomes to produce a Hennepin County Food Security Asset Map. Alongside recommendations in the Assessment, FWG is developing an evaluation framework to track the progress of various food security initiatives. Finally, to ensure community buy-in and ownership, FWG is facilitating community feedback sessions to further hone findings and recommendations.
